The Gift of Mobility

Reader's Digest recently featured an article about an inspiring man who has made it his mission in life to donate free wheelchairs to the needy all over the world. After visiting a third-world country and watching a crippled woman crawl down a dusty dirt road, Don Schoendorfer was moved to find a way to provide wheelchairs for those who can barely afford basic necessities. He now has an organization that produces durable yet inexpensive wheelchairs for the disabled, Free Wheelchair Mission.

In our country, there is an abundance of tools for the disabled compared to the rest of the world, where even a slight handicap can hinder a person who would otherwise be a productive member of society. In fact, one of the recipients of Mr. Schoendorfer's chairs went from a house-bound recluse to an architect student. It seems so simple and yet just $42.00 can change someone's life for the better. I'm so grateful for people like Mr. Schoendorfer who use their talents to find a way to help the less fortunate.
